Braishfield Horticultural Society

The Village Gardening Club

Information for Prospective Members

We are a village-based group of people with an interest in gardening. Some members are quite expert and knowledgeable; others of us can just about cope with mowing the lawn!

We have several members who live outside the village, so you don't have to be a resident of Braishfield to join us. We're a friendly bunch, and always welcome newcomers, whatever their level of expertise.

During most of the year the Society meets on the second Tuesday of the month. We usually have an outside speaker on some aspect of gardening; recent talks have covered Growing Vegetables, Gardens of the Far East, Ponds, Chrysanthemums and Wildlife in the New Forest. Tea or coffee and biscuits are served.

Membership is open to anyone in the local area and costs £10 per year.

In June we have several evening visits to gardens in the region that are open for charity and many of us adjourn to a nearby pub for a meal afterwards.

The big event of the year is on a Saturday usually in mid-July when we run the Village Flower Show. There are cups for flowers and plants, fruit and vegetables, cookery, handicrafts and photography.

An Apple Competition is held in the autumn.

Meetings are at 7:30 in the Village Hall which is on the main road just North of the Wheatsheaf public house and are open to non-members and visitors (£2).

If you are interested in joining just turn up at a meeting or contact the Membership Secretary: Mr M. Prince, 01794 368 339
